BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
Long Clawson village stores (Squirrel Stores) has been a mainstay of village life for decades, providing everyday staple goods, but also fresh bread and meat, wines and delicatessen items, and non-food services such as flowers and dry cleaning. The village lies to the south east of Nottingham and about 7 miles north of Melton Mowbray. The shop occupies an end of terrace property in a central village location and with the nearest supermarket 7 miles away, it serves the wider community in addition to the village itself, which has a growing population of c 1,100 people.
The current owner has little involvement in the day to day running of the shop beyond product ordering. However, having recently started a family and also owning 2 other businesses in addition to Squirrel Stores, the vendor does not have the time to continue to develop the shop and hence it is being marketed for sale.
The shop is fully staffed by a combination of family members and 1 other employee, working 26 hours per week, who would like to remain with the business. The business can be suitably staffed by a single vendor working fulltime and the part-time staff member.
Growth opportunities for the business include introducing the National Lottery, apply to be a Post Office (there isn’t one in the village), applying to be a Hermes collection point etc
Squirrel Stores typically generates annual sales in excess of £200,000 and will deliver owner earnings of c £20,000 for an owner working in the business fulltime.
